Serifos

We got the short ferry ride to Serifos today. While we waited for our boat we took our last looks at Sifnos and watched a fisherman clearing fish, including a sea eel, from his nets. Then the ferry arrived and 30 minutes later we were on Serifos.

Serifos is less developed and has a smaller population, only about 1,400, than the the other islands we've visited. In the late 19th century there was extensive mining of iron ore but the mines closed in the 1960s and Serifos now depends on tourism and small-scale agriculture.

Minutes after walking to our hotel which is in Livadi, the port town, we were swimming in the sea right across the road.

Here's the late afternoon view of the port from Cherry's balcony as our ferry leaves Serifos on its second trip of the day, and the view of the Chora, the old town, from our balcony in the early evening light.

Had dinner at a wonderful Italian restaurant on the water and walked home in the very pleasant 11.00 p.m. temperature.
