Kamares and Sifnos

This is a view of Kamares, the town we are staying in, taken from Saint Simeon monastery that sits on a hill high above it. Last night when it was lit up and the hill below it was black it looked like the spaceship Enterprise or a giant drone.

Speaking of drones, I started the day taking photos of the town and our house with my drone but they look a bit lowdown compared to the ones we took from the monastery later.

We hired cars and drove around much of Sifnos today, starting with the monastery and its fantastic views.

We drove to  Cheronisos, a very remote port and beach at the north of the island.

Then on to the village of Kastro on the east of the island. It was the capital of Sifnos until 1836 and has been inhabited for over 3,000 years. There are extensive medieval remains and artefacts scattered throughout the village.

The Kastro has views of the sea, the surrounding hills, a church and a beach. Look carefully and you'll sea a cow lying on the beach about a metre from the water!

Then we went to Chrissopigi which was all dressed up and ready for tonight's Ascension Day celebrations.

Finally, a couple more beaches, home to Kamares for cocktails while watching the Ascension Day festivities start, then sunset and dinner.
